This page explains what information this website collects, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We keep the site deliberately simple: there is no account system, no newsletter, and no advertising. The personal information we handle comes almost entirely from one place — the contact form you choose to send us.
Who we are
This website, jirokumakura.com, is operated by Jiro Kumakura (Kumakura Jiro Jimusho), #302, 31-37 Nagasaki 5 chome, Toshima-ku, Tokyo, Japan. For anything relating to your personal information, write to info@jirokumakura.com — the same inbox that receives your inquiries, read by the same person who answers them.
What we collect, and why
The contact form
When you send the form on our contact page, we receive your name, work email, and message, plus anything you choose to add in the optional fields (company, location, project type, and timing). We use this for one purpose: to understand your inquiry and reply to it. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to the people who write to us.
So that no inquiry is ever lost in transit, your submission is handled in three ways at once:
- It is emailed to us, and a confirmation copy is emailed to you automatically.
- A copy is stored in this website’s database, so a delivery problem on the email side can never make your message disappear.
- A one-line technical log records that a submission happened (date, outcome, and technical metadata — the log does not contain your message).
We keep inquiry records while we are in conversation with you and for up to two years after our last exchange, so we can pick the thread back up when you return. If your inquiry becomes a project, the correspondence is kept as part of the project record. You can ask us to delete your inquiry at any time.
Spam protection
The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which quietly checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a bot. To do this, your browser connects to Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address and browser characteristics. Turnstile is designed as a privacy-preserving alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs; Cloudflare describes its handling of this data in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use the site — which pages are read, and from which countries. It runs only if you press Accept on the cookie banner when you first visit; if you decline, no analytics loads at all, and the site works exactly the same. Your choice is remembered in a single first-party cookie for a year — to change your mind, clear this site’s cookies in your browser and the banner will ask again. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses; the data we see is statistical, and we use it neither to identify individual visitors nor for advertising. Google describes its handling of this data in the Google privacy policy.
Embedded video and scheduling
Some pages embed sample films and a short introduction video. We configure these embeds in their most privacy-respecting modes: Vimeo players are set to “do not track”, and YouTube videos load from the youtube-nocookie.com domain, which sets no advertising cookies until you press play. When you play a video, the platform processes technical data as described in the Vimeo privacy policy and Google privacy policy.
Our homepage also shows client feedback through a small widget provided by Refrly, which loads from Refrly’s servers, and our “book a call” buttons take you to Calendly, where scheduling happens on Calendly’s own site under the Calendly privacy policy. Booking a call is always your choice; the same conversation is available by email.
Where your data lives
This website and its database are hosted in Japan. If you are writing from the EU or the UK, it may help to know that the European Commission and the UK government both recognise Japan as providing an adequate level of data protection, so your information travels under that adequacy decision rather than on our say-so.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it. Write to info@jirokumakura.com and we will act on it — this is a small operation, and these requests reach a person, and get handled, quickly. If you are in the EU or UK and feel we have fallen short, you also have the right to raise it with your local data protection authority.
What we don’t do
We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not run advertising or ad tracking on this site, and we do not send marketing email. If you write to us, you hear back about your inquiry — that’s the whole of it.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes — a new tool, a new form — we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
